Best of Tubu Tree Camp
My next camp, Tubu Tree, is located on Honda Island in the heart of the Okavango Delta. Although at Savuti Camp we had observed smoldering scorched earth from lightning strikes, Tubu Tree Camp welcomed us with plumes of smoke from a nearby wild fire. Accustomed to these fires, especially at the end of the dry season, the camp staff assured us that they closely monitor the situation. The highlights of Tubu were,
- The resident lioness with her month old cub which we were the first to view
- A female leopard and her playful young off spring
- Elephants jousting and stripping a palm tree
- A troupe of baboons using a tent as a slide to perform "circus" maneuvers
- A menacing hippo
- Majestic baobabs
- A mokoro ride.
Lest I forget Broken, our guide, related an amazing story of being bitten by a puff adder and living to tell the tale.
